Yui Rio

Yui Rio (real name: Yui Horio) is one of the female students who attended Akademi in 1980s Mode.

Before she was reintroduced in 1980s Mode, she was one of the female students who attended Akademi in 202X Mode. She appeared in Buraza Town as a background character, along with the other removed students. However, she has finally been relocated to 1980s Mode.

Yui wears the default 1980s uniform and wears red knee-high stockings.

She has messy red, shoulder-length hair that's tied into a short side ponytail on her right side. Her bangs are tied back on her right side, but they hang freely on her left, partially covering her left eye. Her eyes are scarlet as well.

Yui wore the default uniform unless customized by the player.

From the March 1st, 2015 Build^[2] until the February 8th, 2016 Build, she had scarlet hair worn in a ponytail to her right. Her eyes were scarlet as well. Her bust size is 0.5, the smallest in the game.

As of the February 8th, 2016 Build, she had crimson hair kept up in a short ponytail on the right with her bangs swept to her left in mini triangle shapes. Her eyes were scarlet.

In the January 3rd, 2017 Build, she had Ayano Aishi's hairstyle colored dark red. This was fixed in the January 4th, 2017 Build.

As of the January 16th, 2017 Build, she wore a red friendship bracelet on her right wrist.

As of the February 2nd, 2017 Build, Yui wore red stockings and panties.

Personality[]

Among the personas that are currently implemented in the game, Yui is Spiteful. If she sees a corpse or witnesses Ryoba commit a murder of a bullied student, she will be amused and compliments her for her crimes before running out of school. However, if she witnesses a corpse or a murder of a normal student, she will run away from the school and call the police. She cannot participate in physical fights against murderers.

Week 10[]

During Week 10, Yui helps with Sonoko Sakanoue's investigation and uses the Sleuth persona. She will take a photo of Ryoba committing murder or of the corpse and run to show it to the police, who are just outside the school. This will cause an instant Game Over if the photo is of Ryoba committing murder, as Ryoba will have been arrested.

It is possible that she didn't care for the boundaries of others, as the reference picture^[3] of Yui is shown trying to grab Yuna Hina's rear. Druelbozo has explained that Yui is "Gettin' that booty".^[4] As well, she was shown stealing Mei Mio's glasses in a second reference image.^[5]YandereDev imagines that she didn't often openly express how she felt on the inside. Only a violent, bloody incident like a murder or a corpse caused her true nature to show for a moment. She chose to hang out with the popular crowd and join a club because she sees it as a form of "protection."^[6]

Routine[]

Week 1[]

Yui changes her shoes at 7:00 AM, then hangs out in the school plaza with the rest of the rainbow girls and Kaguya Wakaizumi. She goes to class in Classroom 2-2.

At 1:00 PM, she then heads to the rooftop, along with the rest of the rainbow students and Kaguya, to eat lunch. She heads back to class at 1:25 PM, then participates in Cleaning Time at 3:30 PM, cleaning Classroom 2-2.

At 4:00 PM, she lastly heads to her locker, changes her shoes, and walks out of school with the rest of the rainbow students.

Week 2[]

Yui will quickly rush to her locker and change into her shoes. At 7:00 AM, she will sit down and read by the shoe lockers.

At 8:15 AM, Yui will run to Classroom 2-2 and sits at her desk and starts her morning classes at 8:30 AM. Afterwards, she leaves to eat her lunch outside of Classroom 2-2 at 1:00 PM.

Then, Yui runs back to class again at 1:28 PM and participates in cleaning time between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM. At 4:00 PM, she will go and read outside of Classroom 2-2.

On Thursday, she will not participate during cleaning time and will instead sit down and read till the end of the day.

Week 3 and Week 7[]

During Week 3 and Week 7, Yui sits in the library and reads a book so that there will be witnesses around Honami Hodoshima (and later Teiko Nabatasai).

Yui changes her shoes at 7:00 AM, then goes straight to the library and reads along with the other rainbow girls. At 8:00 AM, she then goes to class in Classroom 2-2.

At 1:00 PM, she heads back to the library, along with the rest of the rainbow girls and Honami to eat lunch. Yui heads back to class at 1:25 PM, then participates in Cleaning Time at 3:30 PM, cleaning Classroom 2-2.

At 4:00 PM, she heads back to the library and continues reading with the other rainbow girls.

At 4:30 PM, she heads to her locker, changes her shoes, then walks out of school with the rest of the rainbow students.

Week 4[]

Yui changes her shoes at 7:00 AM, then goes straight to the girls locker room to converse with Yuna Hina. At 8:00 AM, she then goes to class in Classroom 2-2.

At 1:00 PM, she heads up to the rooftop along with the rest of the rainbow girls and Kaguya to eat lunch. Yui heads back to class at 1:23 PM, then participates in Cleaning Time at 3:30 PM, cleaning Classroom 2-2.

At 4:00 PM, she goes to the indoor cafeteria to perform raijo taiso along with the Rainbow Haired students and Sumiko Tachibana. At 4:30 PM, she heads to her locker, changes her shoes, then walks out of school with the rest of the rainbow students.

Week 5 and Week 9[]

Yui changes her shoes at 7:00 AM, then goes straight to the girls locker room to converse with Yuna Hina. At 8:00 AM, she then goes to class in Classroom 2-2.

At 1:00 PM, she heads up to the rooftop along with the rest of the rainbow girls and Kaguya to eat lunch. Yui heads back to class at 1:25 PM, then participates in Cleaning Time at 3:30 PM, cleaning Classroom 2-2.

At 4:00 PM, she heads back to the female locker to converse with Yuna Hina until 4:30 PM.

Week 6[]

On Friday, she will instead read up the west side stairs leading up to the second floor.

Week 8[]

During Week 8, Yui walks around following Komako Funakoshi along with other rainbow girls in Akademi, making it harder for Ryoba Aishi to kill her without a witness. She eats outside of the Calligraphy Room at lunch.

Week 10[]

At 7:00 AM, Yui enters the school grounds and immediately investigates various students, including Ryoba.

At 8:00 AM, she walks to Classroom 2-2 and sits at her desk. She starts her morning classes at 8:30 AM and leaves to once again investigate various students at 1:00 PM.

She walks back to class again at 1:30 PM and participates in cleaning time between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM. Afterward, she will continue to investigate various students until the end of the day.

Previous[]

At 7:05 AM, Yui entered the school grounds with the other female students. She walked to her locker at 7:10 AM and changed from her outdoor shoes to her indoor shoes. At 7:15 AM, she walked into the plaza, to the left side of the fountain, and gossiped with Yuna Hina, Koharu Hinata, Mei Mio, Saki Miyu, and Kokona Haruka. Musume Ronshaku would gossip with them before the bullies were implemented.

At 8:00 AM, Yui walked into Classroom 1-1 and sits at her desk. She started her morning classes at 8:30 AM, and left to go to the cafeteria to gossip with the Social Butterflies at 1:00 PM.

Yui walked back to class again at 1:30 PM and participated in cleaning time between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM. Afterward, she headed to the Cooking Club and stayed there until 5:00 PM. She then headed to her locker and changed from her indoor shoes to her outdoor shoes, then she stayed there until 5:15 PM when she walked home.

Her hairstyle before the February 8th, 2016 Build was changed because YandereDev thought that her previous hairstyle was "low budget" and "amateurish".^[7]
Her name is a reference to the most popular female Japanese names in 2012, the 1st popular name being Yui, 2nd popular being Rio.^[8]^[9]
- Her name, Yui, has several possible writings, such as "alone" (唯), "reason" (由), "supportive" (維), "think" (惟), "only, clothing" (唯衣), "reason, clothing" (由衣), or "tie, clothing" (結衣).
- Rio, as a first name, has several possible writings, such as "smart, central" (俐央), "smart, cord" (俐緒), "village, central" (里央), "gallant, central" (凜央), or "gallant, cord" (凛緒).
Her real name is Yui Horio as of the October 10th, 2021 build.
- Her real surname, Horio, means "canal, moat" (hori, 堀) and "tail/slope at the foot of a moutain" (o, 尾)
In older versions of the game, her name was Yui Hirasa. The placeholder name was inspired by Yui Hirasawa from the anime K-On!.^[10]
Her male counterpart is Haruto Yuto.
She used to be in the Martial Arts Club until November 15th, 2015 Build.
Before the June 29th, 2016 Build, she used to arrive 2nd to school on the right side, at 7:05 AM.
As of the August 18th, 2018 Build, she has been removed from the game, along with her comment on the Akademi Facebook page. YandereDev said that she (with the other rainbow students) will be put back into the game once the frame rate is stable.
She and the rest of the Rainbow Six girls, excluding Saki Miyu, used to appear in the town as of October 17, 2019. This was changed some time later, now it is other characters who appear in the town
According to YandereDev, she along with the other Rainbow Hair Students had normal lives after they graduated. ^[11]
