Reputation is a key element in Yandere Simulator that determines what types of interactions the player can have with other students.

The reputation meter can currently be found on the bottom-left of the HUD. YandereDev plans to add in more to the feature, such as having students let their guard down around Yandere-chan when her reputation is high, while being nervous around her when it is low.[1] Currently, reputation will increase/decrease during gossiping periods (depending on Yandere-chan's previous actions around the other students).

Students will have three gossiping periods each day:

  • Before morning classes
  • During lunch time
  • After they go home (for which they use social media to communicate)

The heart icon that hovers over Yandere-chan's reputation meter shows where her reputation will be after the next gossiping period. The bar inside the reputation meter shows where her reputation currently is. A student that has witnessed the protagonist do something that will affect her reputation won't be able to tell all of his or her friends immediately; this is why her reputation won't change until after a gossiping period.[2]

Each student has a reputation meter as well, though it is always set at 0 by default. If Yandere-chan takes a picture of a student with her phone and sends it to Info-chan, the latter will show their reputation. The player can also look at their reputation by checking out their Student Info. As of the October 8th, 2015 Build, Yandere-chan can lower other students' reputations by gossiping about them.

The phone will not be available in 1980s Mode,[3] so it is unknown how gossip will work in that mode.

Neutral Reputation

The player will start the game with a neutral reputation, as it is the beginning of school. As the name suggests, she will have no buffs or obstacles by having a neutral reputation. Students will be friendly but typically will not do favors for her, and she will be ignored for the most part.

Good Reputation

Having a good reputation boosts the effect of the player character's gossip, but Yandere-chan's reputation will take a bigger fall if she is seen doing suspicious actions.

YandereDev has considered the idea that if Yandere-chan has a very good reputation, then people will pay attention to her, follow her around, or try to be her best friend.[4] This may be a disadvantage though, because if she's popular enough, she'll attract stalkers. Since they'll constantly follow her, Yandere-chan wouldn't be able to get away with crimes.[5]

In previous builds, Yandere-chan needed a high reputation for students to follow her. As of the October 8th, 2015 Build, she needs to be friends with a student for them to follow her, without a reputation factor. After the November 1st, 2015 Build, Seduction gave similar benefits through different methods.

There is a possibility that, in later builds, if School Atmosphere is low, having a high reputation would be required for students to follow the player.[6]

Bad Reputation

January 15th, 2016.

A bad reputation results from students seeing Yandere-chan doing anything suspicious. The player character will receive a lower reputation penalty for her actions when she has a bad reputation. The reputation penalty will be higher if she has a high reputation.

Students will not offer the player tasks if their reputation is bad, which will make it harder for the player to befriend other students. Some elimination methods may also not be available, as they require a good reputation.

If reputation points are lost, the player can get half of them back by apologizing. Wearing the Kawaii Moe Shimapan Panties will give the main character 75% of points back when apologizing.

Reputation penalties are harsher when the School Atmosphere is low. Senpai cannot accept the player character's love confession if her reputation is below -100, leading to an automatic Game Over.[7]

In the future, it's possible that delinquents will not talk to the player if they have an average or high reputation. If Yandere-chan has a low reputation, they will see her as one of them, thus giving the player the ability to talk to them. The player might be able to befriend them and ask them to do favors, which may unlock new ways to dispose of rivals.[8]

Rival Reputation

Rivals also have a reputation meter. If a rival's reputation level drops to -100, Senpai will not accept her love confession and she will be eliminated.[9] If it reaches -150, the rival will commit suicide, but the animations for it have not yet been added.[10][11] This will be one of the few ways to win the game without much bloodshed.

Mida and Muja will not have a reputation stat but will instead have a 'job performance' stat which will be lowered in a way other than gossip.[12]

Gaining Reputation

The player will be able to increase her reputation, depending on her interactions with fellow students. However, a gossiping period must pass before her reputation bar will move.

  • Complimenting Students

This will increase reputation by one point per student complimented. If Yandere-chan's Seduction level is at 2, complimenting male students (Level 5 for female students) will increase her reputation by two points. Wearing the Sweet Strawberry Panties increases the reputation points she gains when complimenting students to two points, or three points if the panties and Seduction are combined. If the student being complimented is Yandere-chan's friend, she will gain another two points. The player can earn several dozens of points each day, depending on Yandere-chan's skills.

  • Making Food

If the player is in the Cooking Club, they are able to make food and pass it out to students. There are nine octopus hotdogs on the plate, which nine students can eat. Passing one to a student will raise the player's reputation by 5 points per hotdog (six if your reputation is low), essentially raising Yandere-chan's reputation 45 points per tray.

PassFood

Giving food to a student.

  • Internet

It may be possible to say positive things about students on the Internet to increase Yandere-chan's reputation. YandereDev is currently considering this idea.[13]

Losing Reputation

NOTE: Wearing a mask will not affect Yandere-chan's reputation when doing suspicious actions.

Students that catch Yandere-chan in the following states (with the exception of Senpai, who will give Yandere-chan the "Heartbroken" Game Over) will damage her reputation after a gossiping period has passed.

  • Gossiping About a Student:

Decreases reputation by five points. If Seduction is at level 3, gossiping to a male student decreases reputation by two points. If Seduction is at level 5, gossiping to a female student decreases reputation by two points.

  • Visibly Armed

Decreases reputation by ten points if School Atmosphere is high, fifteen points if School Atmosphere is medium, and twenty points if School Atmosphere is low.

If the player has acquired Seduction level 3, it will decrease her reputation by eight points if School Atmosphere is high, thirteen points if School Atmosphere is medium, and eighteen points if School Atmosphere is low. This changes when Seduction is raised even higher.

Decreases reputation by ten points if School Atmosphere is high, fifteen points if School Atmosphere is medium, and twenty points if School Atmosphere is low.

If the player has acquired Seduction level 3, it will decrease her reputation by eight points if School Atmosphere is high, thirteen points if School Atmosphere is medium, eighteen points if School Atmosphere is low, and a male student is the witness. When Seduction is at Level 5, the same applies to female students.

  • Laughing Insanely:

Decreases reputation by ten points if School Atmosphere is high, fifteen points if School Atmosphere is medium, and twenty points when School Atmosphere is low.

If the player's Seduction level is Rank 3, it will decrease her reputation by eight points if School Atmosphere is high, thirteen points if School Atmosphere is medium, and eighteen points if School Atmosphere is low, and a male student is the witness. When Seduction is at Level 5, the same applies to female students.

  • Covered in Blood:

Decreases reputation by ten points if School Atmosphere is high, fifteen points if School Atmosphere is medium, and twenty points if School Atmosphere is low. The player's reputation will not be affected while in the Art Club, because students will think that the player is covered in paint instead of blood.

Decreases reputation by ten points, regardless of School Atmosphere.

  • Taking Nude Photographs:

Decreases the main character's reputation by an unknown amount. YandereDev would like to implement this idea. Taking nude photographs would tank her reputation, however.[14]

If Yandere-chan is caught pickpocketing an NPC, her reputation will drop by ten points.

  • Leaving Witnesses Alive:

If anyone sees Yandere-chan commit murder, her reputation will drop by ten points every subsequent day that witness is alive. They will refuse to speak to Yandere-chan and gossip about her every day. Killing them is the only way to salvage reputation, as that will return the protagonist's reputation to its previous amount. However, Cowards and Evil students will not damage the player's reputation.

In the planned 1980s Mode, it is possible that a witness to murder will instead trigger an immediate Game Over, though this is unlikely.[15]

  • Skipping School

If the player skips school due to torturing students for twelve or eighteen hours, students will think of her as a delinquent. When torturing someone for twelve or eighteen hours, Yandere-chan's reputation will drop by twenty points.

Trivia

  • It may be possible that in the future, the player may be able to interact with the delinquents if her reputation is low enough.[16]
    Reputation

    The original reputation bar.

  • The original reputation bar was located on the top left corner, slightly skewed.
  • The player can change the reputation of others by going to their Student Profile and pressing + or - to raise or lower reputation points. If a student's reputation is lowered enough, they will not come to school the next day.
  • In older builds, the player had an option to threaten students, which would cause Yandere-chan's reputation to be damaged, but cause the student to leave.[17]
  • Befriending a rival may supply Yandere-chan with a permanent reputation gain of +1, per befriended rival.[18]
  • In Mission Mode, the reputation meter is replaced with the awareness meter, which measures how aware the students are that Yandere-chan is suspicious.
